Find out how we can help!
Have you ever visited a doctor about an injury only to have them say "well, just don't do that anymore"? Does your doctor know the difference between a split jerk and a snatch or the inter-related nature of the human body? At Invictus Chiropractic, we pride ourselves in knowing the demands and desires of athletes, particularly of strength athletes. Very rarely will we instruct a patient to forego any exercise or activity they love. Instead, we will suggest modifications, warm-up strategies, and even technical advice to get you back to training for your next meet, game, race, or throw-down. Not an athlete? No problem! We feel that life itself is an athletic event and the needs of an Olympian and the needs of an elderly person differ only by intensity, and not by type. Our approach is inclusive to everybody and will be tailored to fit your needs. Many doctors say they treat sports injuries, but do very little actual rehab. Our approach is very different. Keep reading to find out why.
If you have pain with squatting and your doctor tells you to stop squatting, it's time to find a new doctor!
Most issues are mechanical in nature, meaning the nervous system or tissues have become more sensitive to certain motions or positions, and we may perceive that as pain. This can be a result of real, structural damage such as a rotator cuff injury or a muscle strain, or it can functional in nature such as pain with squatting or pressing overhead. At Invictus Chiropractic, we take an individualized, three-pronged approach to caring for athletes which includes finding the source of your pain and helping to eliminate any road blocks to healing. We will take a thorough history and focused examination to find the source of pain and formulate the best course of action for you based on your goals, needs, and desires. Our ultimate goal is to help you crush your pain, get back to your favorite activities, and be able to care for yourself.
Sometimes joints are put under stresses that is sub-optimal. When this happens, the joint may feel stiff and restricted. This can interfere with proper range of motion, affecting strength and technique. This may predispose an athlete to injury and degeneration over time. Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore normal joint and neurological function to the area. At Invictus Chiropractic, we offer many forms of chiropractic adjustments for the spine as well as the rest of the body!
Effective Rehab Exercises
We often hear patients say something like "it hurts when I do _____" or "If I reach for the dishes in the cupboard, it hurts." These types of phrases are typical of functional pain and often times exercises and different lifestyle approaches can help alleviate pain. Our doctor is a certified strength and conditioning specialist with years of experience in the personal training and group training environment. We will assign "homework exercises" to do on your own either as part of a warm up or at-home routine. Every program is individualized and will take the guess work out of your routine. No more needing to spend an hour foam rolling or messing with a Theraband.
Soft Tissue Treatment
Self myofascial release techniques like foam rolling only go so-far. Training volume and load can lead to muscles which become hyperactive and perceived as tight and can affect training technique and pain levels. Our approach is to calm down muscles which may be developing trigger points, hypertonicity, or tightness. We specialize in several forms of soft tissue treatment include Active Release Techniques (ART), Graston Technique, and RockTape methods. Click HERE to learn more about our soft tissue techniques.
