The Five Pillars of Health - Introduction

Health is complex, but it is not complicated.

Yes, you read that correctly. So much has been written to make health as complicated as possible.

The Keto diet is best!

Marathon training is best!

Drink only lemon water with cayenne pepper!

Is this what you look like trying to sift through all the information out there?

Is this what you look like trying to sift through all the information out there?

Yes, all these things have their time and place, but health cannot be achieved by one thing only. It is a multi-faceted state of being that seeks to optimize the body’s function. It is far more than “not sick or not injured.” Said another way, health comes from within by optimizing the internal environment.

So why has such a simple concept become so complicated and difficult to follow? Well, the short answer is:

Complicated sells. Simple Does not.

I can easily sell a 400-page book that outlines the latest fad diet. I can sell a workout program that’s overly complicated. I can sell a supplement stack.

I can’t sell simple principles.

Even professionals can get confused. How can we expect the general public to be well-informed so that they can be empowered to make their own decisions? We will start by boiling down all the complex information into simple principles that you can use to make your own decisions.

In the next 5 blog posts, I will outline 5 essential pillars of health and how to optimize them in your own life using basic principles.

The Five Pillars are:

  1. Nutrition

  2. Movement

  3. Sleep

  4. Mental Health

  5. Physical Health
